Languages and Evil Empires
On Saturday, my brother and I met to develop the Draconian language. Which you can listen in on as Patreon Supporter on our Discord server! ^_^
I thought about making Matthias' native tongue sort of a bastardized language that removed any words that would make you want to dig into the past or place your allegiances anywhere outside of the empire. So, I asked my brother about it, if that was a viable thing to do, and he said absolutely yes. So there we go!
Then he told me that George Orwell actually explored that idea in great detail. Where The Party crafted the language in such a way that limited freedom of thought. Which goes to show, if you're trying to change the world into your own image, one of the first things you do is change the language. It's kind of a scary thought because language also changes naturally, so how do you know if you're being told to adopt new language customs (for example, "ally" being used in place of "friend") if that's a natural consequence of language changing... or an insidious agenda by someone trying to control your thoughts?
How can you teach someone "love" when it's literally not in their vocabulary?
Welp! Keep coming back and we'll find out!
Thank you, once again, for being amazing and reading Dragonrider's Dance!
