What Are They Talking About?
Well, kind of building off from yesterday, one of the things about Patricius that sets him apart from your average typical evil overlord is that he doesn't have the desire to seek immortality or world domination. As both things have lead to the disastrous and humiliating downfall of many a monarch throughout history. He has the wisdom to understand that someday he'll have to make way for the next generation.
The Life of a Bachelorette
As promised if you're here from Webtoon, when thinking about the pantheon of Dragonrider's Dance, I wanted to have an Artemis-inspired character- a patron goddess of singly women- particularly those single by choice.
I don't know about other cultures, but particularly in the United States when talking with people, various Huffington posts articles such as "I Gave Up On Love, and It Was One Of The Best Decisions I Ever Made" and others, social media posts, etc, I've found that the "single life" in many cases seems to be viewed a very victoriously selfish lifestyle. If you're not tied to a partner, then you can do whatever you want, sleep with whoever you want, and be free and "empowered". Oftentimes, this celebration comes after a bad breakup or a series of breakups. Meaning some jerk put you on course for this lifestyle.
I feel a little gross about that. Like these guys are only choosing single life purely out of spite.
So, as much as Dragonrider's Dance- after this story arch- is about what is essentially a marriage- I wanted to put an emphasis on a less individualistic spin on single life- you're single so that you can always be where you're needed most- not out of some Dorian-Gray style selfish desire to follow your passions or chase fleeting pleasures, but from a more meaningful place- that's your calling and that's your way of making your life give meaning to the world. Other people can get married, and that's fine, but that's not the life for you, and that's okay.
I wonder if Dan has a smilar view on his own life. He himself isn't married- but is it because that's his choice, or because he chose to give his life to his businesses and aquiring gold? Sure, it doesn't come from the same spirtual source that Briallen's does, but then again, his weapons and armor supplied the town with means of defending themselves, and his inn and beers give people a place to rest and good drinks.
