The Gift of Prophecy

Hey! Diedre's Back!

Oh... you don't remember Diedre?

This is her, the satyr creature behind the mirror:

In Other News: Dragonrider's Dance is getting its own language!

Cool, right?

Yesterday, I had a meeting with my brother, who just graduated with a degree in Linguistics. We're working together to create a Draconian language.

The thing about it is that this is a language that all dragons are born (hatched?) already knowing: but it CAN be taught to puny mortals

Now, here's the thing, I have no idea what goes into creating a language, but I have some idea of what I want it to sound like.

It will be taking inspiration from Latin, Korean, and Farsi (which turns out they have a lot more in common with each other than you'd think.), but there's going to be some "growls" thrown in (not like the German "back of the throat" "ch" sound, more like a deep rumble with some rolling Rs). So, it will have the lovely "flowy" feel that Farsi and Korean have, but the old-world, near "dead language" feel that Latin has.

(I asked my brother if this was possible, and he said yes. I really don't want to be that dickhead who has no idea what goes on to creating something like this and makes a bunch of unreasonable demands. Dealt with too many of those in my time.)

So, obviously not any time soon, but the completed language will probably be a year in the making, but I would like to have some books on how to learn the language for you to learn the language (and my brother can get royalties and pay off his student loans!)

Please consider becoming a Patreon so that we can support this amazing Linguist as well as the comic and make this happen faster!

Perks of becoming a Patron!

  • The satisfaction of supporting a comic you enjoy (at least, I enjoy making it, and some of you seem to enjoy it- you guys are kind and awesome, by the way)!
  • Previews to future comics
  • First look at upcoming spoilers in the form of gripping short story
  • First look at the Dragonrider's Dance Video Trailer Project (new progress reports updated weekly. We have a voiceover recording by Italian Voice Actress Vita Wulff (no, she's not famous, but SHE DESERVES TO BE!) and an animated burning logo!
So... imagine THIS, but on fire!

Oh, you're worried about Matthias being pinned to a wall and sliced open?

Don't worry, he'll be fine... a bit traumatized maybe, but he'll live.
